But there is no stopping in this beautifully surreal world littered with deadly traps and soul-crushing obstacles around every corner. The other shoots forward, destroying anything that’s in your path. One button shoots your massive gun downwards, propelling you through the air. The two-button setup is treacherously simple. With a cast of crazed characters, simple but beautifully difficult gameplay, and a pulsing musical score, Atomik is a loud, trippy mess of twitchy platforming goodness.

  • Final Disclaimer and Instructions from steamunlockedĪtomik: RunGunJumpGun is a tough as nails 2D Action Platformer that puts a teeth-rattling, gravity-defying weapon in your hands.
  • if someone fits into this niche, then I hope they can afford to buy SSR and SpaceChem and the rest of the small library of exceptionally clever puzzle games, and not have to pick and choose between them. but the reward is really only ever "you have solved this puzzle" and so, even without the price tag, I think this game will only appeal to big fans of challenging puzzle games, in particular sokoban type puzzle games.

the game consists fully of you, your fork, some sausages, some grills and some land, and never anything more, but it still grows.Īnd then, on top of that, the puzzles are exceedingly clever and difficult, despite being often very, very compact. SSR gives you new levels that let you explore mechanics that were already there (and that you might have found in previous levels but didn't need to or couldn't make use of yet). when I think of games that add more mechanics, they do it by (for example) throwing in a springboard, and then a fan, and then some buttons, and then some icy floor. To me, SSR does the "slowly building up complexity" thing quite beautifully. The more options open up for Indie devs, the better. I applaud him if its successful at 30$ though. And this disconnect left me not wanting to support the value proposition for SSR. Is SpaceChem underpriced? Yeah, probably deserves more money, but then I'd rather see incremental changes, so that a game I might perceive as 15$ value, is actually sold at 20$, but not at 30$. I just dont see anything in this game that puts it in triple the price range of SpaceChem. So I could see devs trying to fight that back and raise prices again, which they do (Prison Architect, etc), perfectly reasonable. And that whole situation might have developed into a phase, where most Indie Games might be "underpriced", so they can sell at all in the current climate. I mean this opens up the question about devaluing Indie games again, and I am a strong defender of stopping this madness devaluation of game prices with 2$ bundle sales.

That doesnt mean Indies shouldnt be allowed to cost 30/40/50/whatever, but for 30$ I could for example get SpaceChem, Full Bore and English Country Tune, which would be a much better value proposition in my opinion.

I simply do not think 30$ would be well invested for me. I mean the whole discussion is weird, because nobody wants to talk about price anymore, as they are sick of Indie Price discussions, but thats exactly what this gets down to for me. I think I have a very good understanding of what the game is and the potential it offers later on (unless it does a Frog Fractions style twist in world 2), based on other similar puzzle games. The whole thing isnt about what features SSR has or doesnt have. It is a block pushing puzzle game with more and more intricate and complex layers, and that is perfectly fine! I love that it exists. As I said I am looking forward to picking up the game again, but even added mechanics (which is a standard in such a puzzle game) arent changing my opinion on it atm. Just the 1st area and I am very glad to hear that, as I was hoping/expecting the game to do add more stuff to it.
